Multiple files uploads working again on Flash 10

Today we received some notifications from a couple of users that upgraded to the recently released Flash Player 10, and experienced an error when trying to upload pictures.

Our multiple files upload system uses Harald Kirschner’s Fancyupload, a great Flash Upload component that works with Mootools (the Javascript framework we use).
Harald has done a great job… and today he was really fast, fixing the code to make it useful for those that already upgraded to Flash Player 10.
He has posted about this here.

We have already implemented the new code and its working great!
If you have any problem with it, just contact us so we can find the problem.

Again, thanks to Harald for the great work and for this prompt fix for FP10 users.

Customize your account!

Yes, now you can customize the look and feel of your account, so visitors to your galleries and pictures can feel like they are still on your website.

You can add a custom header image, with a link to your site, and change the color of backgrounds, texts and links of all the pages where your pictures are displayed.

You will have available a subdomain like youraccount.iimmgg.com from where you can link to your pictures and make use of your own customization.

Also, you can use that subdomain to show any content uploaded to iimmgg.com with your customized style.

Below we show some samples of customized accounts:

Have fun with it! and if you have any doubts, just ask for help at support@iimmgg.com :)

Protecting our childrens. Labeling adult content.

Today we added a nice feature to our system.

A good amount of the uploaded pictures are NOT SAFE FOR WORK content, and that makes us worry about this being seen by childrens.

To help parents prevent childrens from viewing age-inappropriate content, we implemented adult content labeling to all pictures uploaded to iimmgg.com.

When you upload a picture, you can tell us if the content is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. In that case, a Restricted To Adults (RTA) label will be added to the HTML, so those who doesn’t want their childrens to see adult content, can make use of specific software or browser extensions to avoid it.

You can find a good list of adult content filtering products and services from the RTA website.

We support and thanks the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) for this feature that helps all of us to protect our childrens.

We encourage others adult-content-related webmasters to support and make use of this. Its really easy to implement on any site and doesn’t have any disadvantage for your site. It only will help to do a better Internet.

Restricted To Adults (RTA)

lighttpd powered

Today we introduced some changes on iimmgg.com’s image servers.

We were using Apache 2 on all of our servers, to serve php pages and also to serve images, css files and javascript files.
Even with good amounts of memory on the servers, we started to notice some slowness on peak hours.

This is mostly because galleries displayed on our site or external sites, have an average of 20 pictures, so each visitor were requesting 20 files in a row.
On peak ours, Apache was running out of threads, even with enough free memory.

So we took the decision of adding lighttpd powered servers to serve all our static content (images, css, javascript). Since lighttpd is much faster and lighter in resources consumption, it solved the speed problems and also gave more power to Apache when it was really needed (serving php pages).

The first time we used lighttpd, we did it using Apache’s proxy module, so each request to an image, was redirected to lighttpd server on an alternative port.
It was working ok, but it was still using Apache’s threads to do the proxy calls, so we still had problems.
The real solution was to add lighttpd servers on different IPs and setting a special subdomain for it. So now we just serve images from that domain and lighttpd takes care of all the work.

We are also doing some tests with Nginx, that will maybe became the replacement of the Apache servers.

Download galleries from RapidShare.com

Today we’re excited to announce a new feature on iimmgg.com that will allow visitors to download a ZIP-file containing all the images from a gallery.

Every time you are viewing a picture or gallery, you will have a link to download all the pictures on a ZIP-file, that will be automatically uploaded to Rapidshare.com.
We choosed Rapidshare.com service because is the most widely used service to host files.

All the magic is done by a PHP script that upload the zip-files to a Rapidshare.com account and returns the right link (or links, when the gallery has more than 100mb in pictures) for download.

Galleries gets created on request and then cached. So, the first time a visitor tries to download a gallery, he will see the zip-file generation and the Rapidshare.com upload process. Then it gets cached.
Next time a visitor tries to download the gallery, he will inmediately see the download link.

We hope it became useful for you.

Best regards
